Compass Quest Project Kicks Off with First International Camp in Riga

On 19-20 March 2026, partners of the Compass Quest project partners gathered in Riga, Latvia, for the first international Camp.

About the Project

Compass Quest is an Erasmus+ Sport project that promotes active lifestyles, inclusion, and youth engagement through game-based orienteering activities. By combining physical activity with cultural exploration, the project encourages young people to connect with local heritage while developing key competences such as teamwork, problem-solving, and active participation.

Hosted at Riga Teika Secondary School, the Camp brought together project partners from Italy, Austria, Bulgaria and Latvia to exchange knowledge, and begin the practical implementation of the project. The Camp combined presentations, peer learning, and hands-on activities focused on game-based orienteering as an innovative educational approach.

The Riga Camp marked an important first step in building a shared approach among partners and setting the foundation for future activities, including upcoming orienteering camps in partner countries.

Day 1.  Learning and Co-Creation

The first day started with a welcome from the hosting organisation and an introduction to the school environment, followed by getting to know the participants. Partners were introduced to the main principles of developing photo orienteering activities, including examples from the host organisation’s experience.

In the afternoon, participants took part in a practical outdoor photo orienteering activity in the neighbourhood of the school. This was followed by group work, where partners explored how different school subjects can be integrated into orienteering games, adapting the methodology to educational contexts. The day concluded with a reflection session, allowing space for feedback, questions, and discussion.

Day 2.  Testing with Students

On the second day, the focus shifted to testing and validation. Partners worked directly with students from Riga Teika Secondary School, implementing the improved photo orienteering activities developed on Day 1.

Two student groups participated in testing sessions, providing valuable feedback on the structure, engagement, and learning potential of the activities. The workshop concluded with a final discussion, where partners reflected on key learnings, identified areas for improvement, and discussed the next steps of the project.
